GOBLET

GOBLET is a global consortium of organisations and individuals that promotes cooperation amongst trainers and trainees in Bioinformatics, Biocomputing, Biocuration and Computational Biology (B3CB). Its objective is to provide a support and networking infrastructure for trainers and trainees in, and to develop standards for, B3CB education and training.
GOBLET and ELIXIR have formed a Joint Training Strategy, which sets out how they will collaborate on bioinformatics training. Developed on behalf of ELIXIR by the Training Coordinators' Group (TrCG), the Strategy sets out the areas for collaboration, including:
- ELIXIR's emerging TeSS portal for training resources and GOBLET's training portal
- Collaboration on train-the-trainer and train-the-researcher activities
- Joint exploration of training accreditation mechanisms
- Sharing of best practice and expertise on professionalising bioinformatics training
EU projects
ELIXIR is involved in an EU project to support bioinformatics training in Europe: RItrainPlus to train life science research infrastructure operators.
The RITrain project is aimed at the managers and service operators of research infrastructures, with a particular emphasis on distributed research infrastructures. The project will develop a training programme enabling RIs across all domains to gain expertise on governance, organisation, financial and staff management, funding, IP, service provision and outreach in an international context. ELIXIR is represented by EMBL-EBI. Contact Cath Brooksbank (cath@ebi.ac.uk) for more information.
