ELIXIR’s third five-year Scientific Programme sets the strategic direction for the organisation through to 2028. It supports the life science community by coordinating sustainable, distributed services across ELIXIR Nodes. The Programme focuses on four strategic objectives: Science: enabling access to and analysis of life science data; Technology: supporting federated data management and analytics, Nodes: strengthening the long-term operations of national Nodes and People: developing people and capacity to benefit science and society.

ELIXIR-funded activities
To deliver its Programme objectives, ELIXIR funds activities that connect and integrate services across its Nodes. These are led by experts from ELIXIR Platforms and Communities, drawing on national strengths to enable collaboration and innovation.
There are two main types of ELIXIR-funded activities:
- Commissioned Services (also known as internal projects)
- Capacity Building and Knowledge Exchange programme
Commissioned Services
Commissioned Services are funded directly through ELIXIR’s core budget. They’re projects that:
-
Develop and connect ELIXIR services
-
Support collaboration between ELIXIR Platforms and Communities
-
Drive work in areas that are strategically important to ELIXIR
The current Commissioned Services projects align with the four 2024–28 Scientific Programme strategic priority areas. Click on the links below to discover more about the Commissioned Services projects for each one.
