RING 4.0: faster residue interaction networks with novel interaction types across over 35,000 different chemical structures

An ELIXIR Italy paper

The RING server is a powerful tool for calculating non-covalent molecular interactions based on geometrical parameters, providing high-quality and reliable results. This paper introduces RING 4.0, which includes significant enhancements for identifying both covalent and non-covalent bonds in protein structures. It now encompasses seven different interaction types, with the addition of -hydrogen, halogen bonds and metal ion coordination sites. The RING web server has been redesigned to provide a more engaging and interactive user experience, incorporating new visualisation tools. Users can now visualise all types of interactions simultaneously in the structure viewer and network component.

FAIRsofta practical implementation of FAIR principles for research software

An EVERSE funded paper

The computational component in Life Sciences research is often challenging to reproduce and verify. These issues are detrimental to the overall quality of scientific research. This paper presents a comprehensive series of quantitative indicators based on a pragmatic interpretation of the FAIR Principles and their implementation on OpenEBench, ELIXIRs open platform providing both support for scientific benchmarking and an active observatory of quality-related features for Life Sciences research software. The results serve to understand the current practices around research software quality-related features and provide objective indications for improving them.
