ELIXIR has published its Annual Report for 2022, showcasing the major achievements of over 800 experts from 22 ELIXIR Nodes last year. The report presents the progress towards the strategic objectives of the Scientific Programme for 2019-2023 and highlights ELIXIR’s focus on connecting people, data and resources across and beyond Europe.
2022 was a year of growth for ELIXIR with new EU-funded projects added to the portfolio and countries showing interest in joining. In 2022, ELIXIR was involved in 21 EU-funded projects, seven in a coordination role. One of the highlights was the start of the European Genomic Data Infrastructure (GDI) project that aims to realise the 1+Million Genome initiative’s ambition of creating a data infrastructure to enable secure access to genomic and corresponding clinical data across Europe.
After two years of virtual events, ELIXIR returned to in-person gatherings in 2022, alongside online and hybrid events and meetings. Collaborations with global organisations and life science industries were strengthened through our flagship events, such as the Innovation and SME Fora and Biohackathon Europe, which were held in a hybrid format.
The Annual Report also highlights ELIXIR's impact and industry engagement. In 2022, ELIXIR created the impact dashboard and an industry engagement map to showcase ELIXIR’s work towards impact in the policy and innovation spheres.
ELIXIR also started preparing its next Scientific Programme, with an in-depth consultation process with experts in different scientific fields.
“We foresee that ELIXIR will continue its expansion in 2023, with advanced discussions with new Member States underway. And, with the 2024-2028 Scientific Programme launch growing ever closer, the coming year is one for us all to pull together to make our plans for the coming years the best they can be.”
