Applying the FAIR Principles to computational workflows
Collaboration of ELIXIR Workflow Hub & Australian BioCommons
Recent trends within computational and data sciences show an increasing recognition and adoption of computational workflows as tools for productivity and reproducibility that also democratise access to platforms and processing know-how. As digital objects to be shared, discovered, and reused, computational workflows benefit from the FAIR principles. The Workflows Community Initiatives FAIR Workflows Working Group has systematically addressed the application of both FAIR data and software principles to computational workflows. The authors present recommendations to workflow users and authors, workflow management system developers, and providers of workflow services as guidelines for adoption and fodder for discussion. The FAIR recommendations for workflows proposed in this paper will maximise their value as research assets and facilitate their adoption by the wider community.

REDIportal: toward an integrated view of the A-to-I editing
An ELIXIR Italy paper
A-to-I RNA editing is the most common non-transient epitranscriptome modification. It plays several roles in human physiology and has been linked to several disorders. Large-scale deep transcriptome sequencing has fostered the characterisation of A-to-I editing at the single nucleotide level and the development of dedicated computational resources. REDIportal is a unique and specialised database collecting 16 million of putative A-to-I editing sites designed to face the current challenges of epitranscriptomics. It provides an accurate, sustainable and accessible tool enriched with interconnections with widespread ELIXIR core resources such as Ensembl, RNAcentral, UniProt and PRIDE. The authors reported a reliability score per site calculated using a deep learning model trained using a huge collection of positive and negative instances.
