The new 2016 ESFRI Roadmap launched today classifies ELIXIR as a Landmark - a research infrastructure that reached its implementation phase by 2015.
The 2016 Roadmap consists of 21 ESFRI projects with a high degree of maturity, and 29 ESFRI Landmarks; it was launched during a one-day conference in Amsterdam, organised as part of the Dutch EU Presidency.
The new Roadmap describes the role and impact of ELIXIR as “essential for European life science research, as the enhanced technical architecture will facilitate access to well-curated data, international collaboration and ultimately play an integral role in the transformation of bio-industries.”
ELIXIR has been part of the ESFRI Roadmap since its inception in 2006. In 2014 ESFRI categorised ELIXIR as one of Europe’s three priority new Research Infrastructures and invited ELXIR to apply to a dedicated call within Horizon 2020. The ELIXIR-EXCELERATE project was funded following ELIXIR’s submission to this Call.
The European Strategy Forum on Research Infrastructure (ESFRI) is an initiative of the European Council to drive the development of research infrastructures, corresponding to the needs of the European research community. ESFRI Roadmaps identify Research Infrastructures (RI) of pan-European interest, covering all scientific areas.
