European collaborations

ELIXIR is classified as a Landmark on the European Strategy Forum on Research Infrastructures (ESFRI) roadmap, and collaborates closely with other key life science ESFRI research infrastructures in order to provide bioinformatics resources across Europe.

European research infrastructures

The European Strategy Forum on Research and Innovation (ESFRI)

ESFRIESFRI is a strategic forum that brings together European countries to develop joint plans for the most critical research infrastructures. In 2006, ESFRI published its first roadmap, which then identified 35 pan-European research infrastructures of key importance in supporting science and innovation. ELIXIR was included on the first roadmap and became a Landmark in 2016, along with other mature research infrastructures.

Euro-BioImaging

Euro-BioImagingELIXIR and Euro-BioImaging have a Joint Image Data Strategy to support access to biological image data and link it to biomolecular data.

BBMRI-ERIC

BBMRI-ERIC logoELIXIR and BBMRI-ERIC signed a statement on strategic collaboration in 2023. It identifies areas for future collaboration between the two infrastructures like research data management, training, Ethical, Legal and Societal Issues (ELSI) and the provision of human data from biobanks through the European Genomics Data Infrastructure (GDI) project.

The Life Science Research Infrastructures (LS RI) Strategy Group

LS RIThe research infrastructures on the life science domain of ESFRI roadmap regularly meet through the LS RI Strategy Group to discuss common topics of interest.

Instruct-ERIC

Instruct-ERIC logoELIXIR and Instruct-ERIC, the European research infrastructure for structural biology, have announced a strategic collaboration with the signing of a joint statement in 2024. The collaboration aims to enhance data FAIRness, advance AI applications in life sciences and align efforts in shared scientific and technical priorities.
