ELIXIR Sweden

The Swedish ELIXIR node is NBIS -- the National Bioinformatics Infrastructure Sweden -- which also forms the SciLifeLab Bioinformatics platform. NBIS currently has 100 staff, providing Support, Infrastructure and Training. NBIS has both national and international activities. Our current ELIXIR tasks are within the projects ELIXIR-CONVERGE, B1MG and EJP-RD, and in providing the ELIXIR Core Data Resource Human Protein Atlas, which contains 10 sections each exploring the human proteins from different angles.

The Human Protein Atlas is a Swedish-based program initiated in 2003 with the aim to map all the human proteins in cells, tissues and organs using integration of various omics technologies, including antibody-based imaging, mass spectrometry-based proteomics, transcriptomics and systems biology.

NBIS has funding from SciLifeLab, the Swedish Research Council (VR), the Knut & Alice Wallenberg Foundation, and the 11 universities forming the consortium behind NBIS with Uppsala University as the host organisation. NBIS also has funding from EU, NordForsk/NeIC and ELIXIR.
