Weekly Brief 8 May 2017

Hub updates

Dr Stephanie Suhr, Senior ELIXIR Project Manager has decided to leave the ELIXIR Hub to pursue new opportunities. She has made many contributions to the early phases of ELIXIR: as BioMedBridges project manager, overseeing the submission of the CORBEL and EXCELERATE proposals, as EXCELERATE project manager and leading the work on the ELIXIR ELSI policy. Please join us in wishing Steffi the best of luck in the future!

The ELIXIR-EXCELERATE project Mid-Term review takes place this week on Wednesday in Brussels. The meeting will be followed by a one-day ELIXIR Conference 'Core Resources for Data Economy' to discuss the impact of open biological data on innovation and growth.

Developing the next ELIXIR Programme

ELIXIR has initiated the preparations for the next five-year ELIXIR Scientific Programme (2019-2023). The new Programme will be agreed with the ELIXIR HoN committee and approved by the ELIXIR Board in 2018, before starting in January 2019.

The five Platforms and Human genomics and translational data area have been sent a slide template to consider their priorities for this. Based on responses from the Platforms by 24 May, the ELIXIR Hub will prepare a discussion topic for the HoN retreat in June to initiate planning of the Programme.

The current Use Cases have prepared extensive reports for the EXCELERATE mid-term review, and two proposals for possible new Use Cases (Proteomics and Metabolomics) will be discussed at the June HoN retreat. Based on these reports, and agreement on principles for selecting Use Cases, the decisions on Use Cases to be included in the next Programme will be taken after summer, at which point they will be asked to prepare a case proposal.
