From the establishment of a national bioinformatics society to the development of a national bioinformatics infrastructure

An ELIXIR Romania (Observer) opinion paper

The Romanian Society of Bioinformatics was founded in 2019 to accelerate the development of Romanian bioinformatics. RSBI led the development of the national bioinformatics infrastructure, the Romanian Bioinformatics Cluster with the mission to act as an ELIXIR National Node. This paper reports successful projects in training, public engagement, and policy projects, as well as initiatives related to data federation that can serve as valuable learning experiences for future implementations. The authors offer insights into the evolving role of the bioinformatics society and the synergies with the National ELIXIR Node.

DiatOmicBase, a gene-centered platform to mine functional omics data across diatom genomes

An ELIXIR Belgium preprint

Diatoms are prominent microalgae found in all aquatic environments. Over the last 20 years, thanks to the availability of genomic and genetic resources, diatom species such as Phaeodactylum tricornutum have emerged as valuable experimental model systems for exploring topics ranging from evolution to cell biology, (eco)physiology and biotechnology. This paper presents DiatOmicBase, a genome portal gathering comprehensive omics resources from P. tricornutum and two other diatoms to facilitate the exploration of dispersed public datasets and the design of new experiments based on the prior-art.
