Slovenia becomes the latest ELIXIR member

ELIXIR-Slovenia-logoSlovenia is the latest country to join ELIXIR, after the ratification of the ELIXIR Consortium Agreement by the Slovenian parliament and its approval by the ELIXIR Board.

The Slovenian Node is coordinated by the University of Ljubljana's Faculty of Medicine, bringing together 16 members from across academia, clinical research and industry. It offers e-infrastructure services for genomics and transcriptomics, as well as expertise in plant sciences, cheminformatics and molecular modeling, and biomedical data and sample resources.

ELIXIR Slovenia is also active in bioinformatics training and will help drive the development of ELIXIR’s e-learning capacities. As a co-lead of ELIXIR’s Capacity Building programme, ELIXIR Slovenia will help in the development of Data Nodes Network and other capacity building activities.

Albin Kralj from the Slovenian Ministry for Science, Education and Sport, and Slovenian delegate to the ELIXIR Board said: "Slovenia has been involved in ELIXIR as an Observer for a number of years, actively participating in activities such as training and ELIXIR’s Capacity Building programme. Joining ELIXIR as a full Member is a natural step for us. It will lead to deeper collaboration with ELIXIR partners across Europe and help strengthen the Slovenian bioinformatics community."

Slovenia follows France, Spain, Belgium and Italy in joining ELIXIR in the past five months. ELIXIR now counts 17 Members and 2 Observers.
