Agenda for HoN meeting at All Hands now available

An agenda for the ELIXIR HoNs meeting to be held in advance of the ELIXIR all - hands meeting (https://docs.google.com/document/d/1Epa8Ri0N6ha-LY5jR146m8_YgKGWIV-RV0q…) on 30th of March can now be found here (https://docs.google.com/document/d/1tqQxpln-AjccvAjbLUtwZ_2GHjZ89SG3Vsd…) .The meeting will be held in the Meadow Room in EMBL-EBI South Building 11.30 - 13.00. Lunch will be provided outside the room.

ELIXIR-DK announces EDAM Governance model

The EDAM ontology (1) underpins the ELIXIR Tools & Data Services Registry (2). To prepare for growth of the registry, EDAM has been put under a robust open governance model (3), the purpose of which is to ensure EDAM remains use-case driven, scientifically relevant and technically robust. The EDAM Advisory Group advises the EDAM Core Developers on how best to uphold the EDAM principles and achieve its current aims. It represents the broad life science community, especially scientist end-users. The EDAM Steering Group includes those members of the Advisory Group who are committing significant resources to EDAM. Ilkka Lappalainen joins the ELIXIR Hub team

Last week we were pleased to announce that EMBL-EBI's Ilkka Lappalainen has joined the ELIXIR Hub team as a visitor to the ELIXIR Hub.Ilkka's key task will be to bring together the work on human research data across different initiatives. He will be in contact with relevant people in people in due course.Further information about Ilkka and the work he will be doing for ELIXIR can be found on the ELIXIR Website. Update from the ELIXIR TrCG monthly meeting - 11 March 2015

The minutes from the ELIXIR TrCG monthly meeting can be found here (https://docs.google.com/document/d/1GAN4gvBdMYXLBJWyVzE1ZyPUk4pbmx7BQlH…) .The draft GOBLET-ELIXIR strategy is in its final state and will be sent to the HoN in the near future.TrCG discussed potential pilots that are in line with TrCG objectives and/or give a kick-start to certain training activities described in ELIXIR EXCELERATE. This will be discussed and finalised during the TrCG F2F meeting, 31 March - 1 April 2015 in Hinxton, where the results from the training breakout session will be taken into consideration.TrCG will kickstart 2 task forces during the TrCG F2F meeting: TF survey and TF 'training capacity building'.

ELIXIR Collaboration Workshop on Marine Informatics, Hinxton, UK (16-17 Mar 15)

This week an ELIXIR Workshop on Marine Informatics took place here at the ELIXIR Hub with 30 participants from Nodes, EMBRC, MIRRI and related projects. The workshop, co-organised with ELIXIR-NO, EMBL-EBI and the Hub discussed infrastructure needs for reference data and metagenomics research in the marine domain and considered future opportunities and challenges. The workshop resulted in concrete ideas for future ELIXIR pilot actions and an outline for a white paper. The white paper will now be prepared and a draft made available for comments in due course.

Second ELIXIR Innovation and SME Forum event held in Wageningen, Netherlands (18-19 Mar 15)

This week a second ELIXIR Innovation and SME Forum event took place in Wageningen, Netherlands. The event focused on 'Data-driven innovation in the agri-food industries' with over 70 people taking part.Slides from the event can be found via the ELIXIR Website (http://www.elixir-europe.org/events/innovation-and-sme-forum-data-drive…) .The next ELIXIR Innovation and SME Forum event will be held in Basel, Switzerland, on 9 June 2015. Registration for this event will open soon.

Webinar on ELIXIR AAI Pilot now available

The webinar on the ELIXIR AAI pilot for distributed authentication of the European Genome-Phenome Archive (EGA), presented this week by Mikael Linden (ELIXIR-Finland) and Ilkka Lappalainen (EMBL-EBI) as part of the ongoing ELIXIR Webinar series (http://elixir-europe.us4.list-manage.com/track/click?u=751beffce2e491f9…) , is now available for viewing via the ELIXIR Website (http://elixir-europe.us4.list-manage.com/track/click?u=751beffce2e491f9…) .The next webinar will take place on Wednesday 15th April, with Aleksandra Pawlik (ELIXIR-UK) providing an update on ELIXIR Data and Software Carpentry activities, which will be followed by opportunity for questions and discussion.More information about the series, a full schedule of upcoming events and recordings from previous events can be found here. NIH is accepting administrative supplement requests to support projects that will establish or improve interoperability among NIH funded biomedical data repositories.The application deadline is: April 20, 2015. B.BICE+ launches two calls for travel grants

B.BICE+ (http://www.b-bice-plus.eu/) , the International Cooperation project funded by the European Commission whose aim is to enhance bilateral cooperation and to support political dialogue in Science, Technology and Innovation (STI) between Europe and Brazil, has launched two calls to finance working visits and exchanges between Europe and Brazil.The deadline for application is April 6 2015.
