Biology: The big challenges of big data

Article in Nature News & Comment

An article in Nature today outlines the challenges of handling large volumes of data in biology. It describes ELIXIR as "a project to help scientists across Europe safeguard and share their data, and to support existing resources such as databases and computing facilities in individual countries. Whereas CERN has one supercollider producing data in one location, biological research generating high volumes of data is distributed across many labs — highlighting the need to share resources."

It is a well-written article, and discusses some of the challenges in data sharing and cloud computing.
