Driving people development across ELIXIR

ELIXIR’s success depends on a skilled, engaged and well-supported workforce across all Nodes and roles. PeoplePulse focuses on people development as a strategic priority, recognising that ELIXIR needs strong onboarding, clear role profiles, relevant training and better visibility of good practice to sustain and grow a distributed research infrastructure. The project supports ELIXIR’s People tier by helping Nodes attract, develop and retain staff with the skills needed to operate effectively within a rapidly evolving research landscape.

Project objectives

PeoplePulse focuses on four connected areas that underpin people development across the infrastructure, explored here.

Onboarding and newcomer experience

Improving how new colleagues understand ELIXIR, its structures and how to get involved. The project aims to provide a clearer, more consistent onboarding journey across the Hub and Nodes.

Roles and career paths

Describing roles that reflect the range of expertise required in ELIXIR, from operational and managerial roles to technical and scientific positions. This supports clearer expectations and more transparent career pathways across Nodes.

Training and capacity-building

Building on initiatives such as ELITMa and training developed through ELIXIR–CONVERGE, the project explores new training concepts that support leadership, management, collaboration in distributed teams and impact assessment. These will help Nodes strengthen their internal organisational capabilities.

Success stories and good practice

Capturing examples of effective people development initiatives and sharing them across Nodes to encourage reuse and peer learning. This includes guidance on how to evaluate the relevance and impact of people-focused activities.

Project outcomes

PeoplePulse will deliver a more consistent approach to onboarding, clearer role definitions and better access to people-focused training across ELIXIR. It will provide reusable guidance, examples and recommendations that Nodes can adapt to their own context. By strengthening organisational and people development practices, the project contributes to a more resilient, connected and capable ELIXIR people network.
