Mapping collaborations in life sciences

ELIXIR launches a new project to map out the landscape of life science organisations, projects and alliances, and how they collaborate and connect to each other. The goal is to describe the interconnections between and within the life science communities, and identify their overlaps, similarities and differences.

Describing this complex network will help ELIXIR understand how they fit with ELIXIR, both in terms of scope and expertise. This will feed into ELIXIR community and industry outreach, training strategy, and the ELIXIR capacity building programme.

The initiative will join forces with Pistoia Alliance and their Map of Alliances project. A global consortium of companies and vendors in life science, Pistoia Alliance will link up their members to the project, and provide an industry perspective. Both Pistoia and ELIXIR will also engage other organisations and consult their plans with them.

The Pistoia Alliance and ELIXIR will continue to work closely together over the coming weeks, and discuss the project technical specifications. The formal launch of the collaboration should take place at a joint workshop planned immediately after the BioMedBridges Open Data Symposium on 17-18 November 2015 in Hinxton, UK.
