Expansion of ELIXIR management training programme

The ELIXIR Training in Management (ELITMa) programme is expanding as part of the Horizon Europe-funded ELIXIR-STEERS project and the PeoplePulse internal ELIXIR project.

ELITMa aims to develop people within ELIXIR by offering modular training courses in operations and management, including technical management.

The programme was conceived in response to an assessment of training needs in management and operations across Nodes, undertaken by the ELIXIR Training Platform between 2019 and 2021. A curriculum of eight modules was then developed by the EU-funded ELIXIR-CONVERGE project and the ELIXIR Node Coordinators Group:

  1. ELIXIR governance and organisational behaviour
  2. Data management
  3. Strategic management
  4. Leading teams in ELIXIR
  5. Legal and ethics issues
  6. Communication
  7. Financial management
  8. Project management

In 2023, as part of reassigned funding in ELIXIR-CONVERGE, the following  modules of ELITMa were developed and delivered:

  1. ELIXIR introduction and governance
  2. Node  data management strategy
  3. Project management, financial management and strategic management

Now, as part of the ELIXIR-STEERS and PeoplePulse projects, the remaining  modules are being refined and rolled out, and two new modules (Impact and Carbon Footprint) designed and delivered.

ELITMa addresses two of the ambitions of the ELIXIR Scientific Programme 2024-28: that Nodes are well equipped to efficiently manage and run a distributed infrastructure; and that ELIXIR technical and scientific staff have the skills needed for operational excellence and impact.

ELIXIR colleagues can find out more about contributing to ELITMa or upcoming modules on the ELITMa webpage.
