Slovakia has become the newest member to join ELIXIR, following the signature of the ELIXIR Consortium Agreement by the Ministry of Education, Research and Youth. This brings the number of ELIXIR members to 23.
The ELIXIR Node in Slovakia will integrate expertise from across the country, including
Comenius University Bratislava and Pavol Jozef Šafárik University in Košice.
Tomáš Michalek, Head of Unit for Research Infrastructures at the Ministry of Education, Research, Development and Youth of the Slovak Republic, said: “Joining ELIXIR is part of the Slovak Republic’s long-term strategy to participate in key European research infrastructures, especially those listed on the ESFRI roadmap. ELIXIR plays a key role, complementary to that of EOSC, in supporting the availability and interoperability of life science data and other digital assets across the biomedical ecosystem, both in Slovakia and across Europe.”
Andrew Smith, Head of External Relations at ELIXIR, said: “Slovakia’s accession as an ELIXIR Member is a significant and welcome milestone, strengthening both ELIXIR and the Slovak bioinformatics community. We look forward to partnering with Slovak colleagues to integrate their services into the ELIXIR network and to amplify the impact of life science data resources for researchers across Europe.”
