Two Software Carpentry Workshops, co-organised and supported by SIB, the ELIXIR Swiss Node will be held in:

20-21 June 2016, Lausanne, Switzerland

23-24 June 2016, Basel, Switzerland

Software Carpentry's mission is to help scientists and engineers get more research done in less time and with less pain by teaching them basic lab skills for scientific computing. These hands-on two days workshops, will cover basic concepts and tools for working more effectively with source code, including program design, version control, data management, and task automation. Short tutorials will alternate with practical exercises, and all instruction will be done via live coding. Participants will be encouraged to help one another and to apply what they have learned to their own research problems. During this course participants will learn about: Automating tasks with the Unix shell Building programs with Python Version control with Git Managing data with SQL
