ELIXIR releases 2024 Annual Report

ELIXIR has released its 2024 Annual Report, describing the first year of achievements under the 2024-28 Scientific Programme.

In 2024, ELIXIR invested €10.2M in 12 internal projects to support activities within the four strategic areas: science, technology, Nodes and people. The investment included an open call to support science projects that span multiple ELIXIR Nodes, Communities and Platforms, promoting integration and interoperability. Infrastructure support was also provided for two key services: the ELIXIR Training e-Support System (TeSS) and the LifeScience Login, with the aim of providing stability for users across Europe.

ELIXIR’s EU-funded project portfolio expanded, with the coordination of two new EU-funded projects. ELIXIR-STEERS, involving all ELIXIR Nodes, is enhancing large-scale, cross-border federated analysis in life sciences data from across Europe. EOSC-ENTRUST is building a European network of Trusted Research Environments (TREs) for sensitive data and drive European interoperability by joint development of a common blueprint for federated data access and analysis.

2024 saw collaboration agreements with Instruct-ERIC and the Office for Data Science Strategy (ODSS) of the US National Institutes of Health (NIH).  Within ELIXIR, two new Focus Groups were created - the Domestic Animals Genome and Phenome Focus Group and the Pathogen Data Focus Group.

In March 2024, Tim Hubbard joined  ELIXIR as Director. “As we reflect on a year of progress, I am grateful for the dedication and vision of the ELIXIR community. The work of our Nodes, partners and funders is instrumental in building a sustainable, integrated life science data infrastructure.”
